"CSR is just profit maximisation."

Arguably the world's most influential strategic thinker and rated by Accenture as "the world's leading business intellectual", Professor Michael Porter's views on competitive strategy have transformed the way corporations around the world compete and operate in their sectors.
At the two day Liverpool Summit 2008 – Transforming the Future event at Liverpool’s new BT Convention Centre, Michael was in town to provide his leading insight into Strategies for Profit Maximisation and Society and Strategy: Corporate Social Responsibility and the Competitive Advantage.
The receptive audience listened intently as presented his thoughts relating to CSR. He suggested using four main themes of moral obligation, sustainability, licence to operate and reputation as the four prevailing justifications for CSR and called for more emphasis on an embedded, proactive strategic approach that called for a deeper understanding of shared value to improve overall performance.
His closing remarks were summed up with "CSR is just profit maximisation" and hoped that the future for CSR was an evolution from a “fragmented defensive posture to an integrated, affirmative approach.”
